Research consistently shows that when girls are equipped with the right resources and mentorship, chances of staying in school and excelling academically Providing both educational material and psychosocial support is therefore essential in bridging the educational gap and ensuring that girls are not left behind.
To address these challenges, Victory Empowerment Center sponsored the Back-to-School Initiative by Girls Inspired Development Network, with medical support provided by AMC Hospital.
Intervention
At Girls Inspired Africa, preparing girls for the new academic session remains a core priority, and through mentorship, we remain committed to seeing girls excel in their educational journey
The Back-to-School 2025 Program, themed “Empowering Girls, Building Brighter Futures,” successfully empowered 51 girls from various communities around Durbar Road, Amuwo-Odofin.
The program commenced with a medical check-up provided by our co-partner, AMC Hospital, to ensure the girls were fit and ready for the new school session. This was followed by an energizer activity and a self-reflection exercise to help the girls connect with their identity and aspirations.
The girls received a life-inspiring lecture from the Senior Program Specialist, Adebukola Adeboye, on “Starting a New Term and Finishing in Flying Colours.”
The lecture addressed the following areas:
- Preparing mentally for the new term
- Creating a routine that supports learning
- Getting a study partner for accountability
- Knowing what works best for them as individuals
The second session, facilitated by our co-partner, the director of AMC Hospital, focused on menstrual health management and emphasized the importance of maintaining good health while in school. This session was highly interactive, with girls encouraged to ask questions and share personal concerns about health and school readiness.
The program concluded with the distribution of school supplies, including exercise books, pens, sanitary pads, water bottles, and mathematical sets. These were generously sponsored by Victory Empowerment Center. The day ended with a group photograph to capture the moment.
